Assembly 1: Steerer and Fork Assembly
In Assembly Station 1, we fasten the fork, quick-release cap, and t-handle to the steer tube. We also assemble the steer support (the curved part linking the steer tube to the deck) to the steer tube. This assembly operation is the most time-consuming and complicated of the assembly operations. Approximately 30 of the product's 80 parts are assembled at this station. Because of the complexity of these assembly operations, we like to operate this station fairly steadily with the same workers. As a result, we hold some work-in-progress inventory (shown below) after this process step.
